Live update from Puttaparthi

Programme by children from 99 Sathya Sai schools (3 september)

There are 99 Sathya Sai Schools all over India and a huge effort has been made to streamline them and get them focussed and centralised. A common uniform, a common logo and a common rules-set had been devised and all had simultaneously adopted them. And today, representatives from all these schools had arrived to Puttaparthi on a pilgrimage and to put up a programme in the divine presence. more than a thousand children awaited Swami’s arrival. Swami was welcomed into the Kulwant hall by a procession of children chanting the Vedas. Gliding through the ladies’ side, He arrived at the centre. There were children bearing flags and Swami passed by them. The theme for the evening was “Satyam vada Dharmam chara” As Swami passed by the boys clad in white shirts and sky blue pants, they all rose up and seemed so excited.

it was such a sweet sight to see Swami trying to calm them and tell them to sit. The burly security guards who do a precise job of keeping the crowds in check seemed to be at their wits end when it came to these children! Swami beckoned the children to sit and collected many letters from them. The relationship between god and children is always so beautiful for both are so childlike. Swami completed the darshan rounds and near the Primary school children, sat for a while listening to them chant. Then He moved into the bhajan hall.

Tomorrow being the day of the Arudra Star which is presided over by Lord Shiva, is most auspicious. A Shiva Parvathi Kalyanotsavam, a ceremony reminiscing the holy marriage between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi would be held in the immediate Divine presence. Preceding to the auspicious day, this evening, Bhagawan performed the the Prana Pratishta of the idols, an act of infusing the Divine Life Force, followed by Netronmeelana, opening of the eyes of the deities, amidst Veda chanting. Upanayanam for the deity of Lord Chandrasekhara was also done as a part of the proceedings. The deities have been named as 'Chandrasekhara' and 'Parvathi' by Bhagawan Himself. These deities have been brought to Prasanthi Nilayam from Kumbhakonam, the 'temple town' of South India in Tamil Nadu. Before leaving the hall Swami also blessed Angavastram for the priests.

Swami then came on to the stage. He lit the lamp at 5:50 pm to mark the beginning of the programme. Beginning the function after invoking initial blessings, a group of children burst open with a song dancing to the tune of "Sathyam Vada Dharmam Chara...Jeevan Daata." hailing Mother Sai's glory as the Supreme Lord, the bestower of life!Soon, Dr. Ranga Rao, Trust Convener, Sri Sathya Sai Trust, Andhra Pradesh took over speaking on the mission and credentials of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar Schools across India. Ninety One schools across India, including 79 High Schools with a student force of over 50000 are the centres of excellence imparting value based education in the lines of the teachings of Swami. Dr. Ranga Rao also made a mention about the "Vidya Vahini" initiative mooted by the alumni of Bhagawan's Institutions, which would be of immense benefit to the teachers in getting trained to turn into professionals in Sai mode of education. Dr. B.G.Pitre, Director of Institute of Sri Sathya Sai Education, Mumbai presented a compendium on behalf of "All Sathya Sai Schools in India", entitled "Saplings of Love" that was released by the Divine hands.

In between the speech, Swami called two school students and gave them vibhuti packets. He also blessed their trays and gave them padanamaskar. Representing the schools, four children from four different parts of India presented short speeches on the subject, Sathyam Vada Dharmam Chara, in Hindi, Telugu, Sanskrit and English. While a boy from Rishikesh spoke in Hindi, three girls from Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi, Swapna, Padmaja and Niti Agarwal followed in Telugu, Sanskrit and English respectively, essentially highlighting the greater importance of the subject under discussion in present times. As the boy concluded his speech, Swami was so happy that he called him and materialized vibhuti for him. He also applied the same to his forehead.

"Sai Vidya Sarasa Vidya", a dance drama highlighting the importance of eduction imparted in Sathya Sai Schools followed. The presentation was a depiction of Deshabhakthi Vidya, Mathrubhakthi Vidya and Seva Bhakthi Vidya finally reiterating the truth that the only way to tranform the world is to propagate Sai Vidya in every nook and corner of the world. The forty five minute presentation was a combined effort from the Sathya Sai Schools from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. In between, Swami went into the interview room and then came out after about 20 minutes. The presentation ended with a colourful dance followed by a reference to Prasanthi Nilayam which is verily the Kaliyuga Kaliyuga Kalisam and Navayuga Vaikuntam where dwells Sri Sathya Sai Saraswathi, the bestower of all boons.

As the programme concluded, Swami said that he would go down for group pictures. He moved down the stage and sat amidst the huge assemblage of children. He returned to the stage and then there was the safari and saree distribution that took place. Aarthi was taken after which Swami gifted the group photo that had been taken to one of the kids. Then he asked the students to sing a bhajan after which he received a second Aarthi. Blessing everyone, Swami retired for the day.

One may be subjected to calumny, insult and dishonour; one may be plunged into poverty or pain; but the person who has surrendered to the Will of God will welcome each of these gladly and bear it with equanimity. The Lord will never give up His children. Those devoted to God have to be patient and calm, under the most poignant provocation. The fact is, the pious and the God-fearing are those who are most visited by travails and troubles: in order to teach mankind these great truths, Krishna enacted the drama in Mahabharatha, with the Pandavas as the cast. Every incident in their lives is but a scene in His Play.
